My OCR career began in 2014, with 2016 being the first year to compete in the “elite” division. I concluded the 2016 race season with 5 top 10 finishes in Spartan elite females, qualifying for the Spartan World Championship race. I finished 1st place female at the 2016 Barbarian Challenge. I concluded the 2016 Xterra Alabama Trail Run Series 1st place in my age group. I also completed my first full marathon in 2016. Out of all of my 2016 races and accomplishments, the Barbarian Challenge is by far my favorite race! It is a great distance, filled with challenging obstacles/terrain with beautiful scenery through Noccalula Falls. I am beyond appreciative of the Gadsden Running community and everyone who has motivated me and believed in me when I did not believe in myself.
Running has been more for me than a sport. Running has taught me more about myself and life. It has allowed me to find freedom and strength. It has taught me perseverance, persistence, dedication, pushing limits. It has challenged me physically and mentally. With running, you have to always keep pushing forward even through the difficult times. Running has ultimately made me the best me. Running has taught me that I am capable of much more than I ever imagined. I love that anybody can be runner, any age, any body type, etc. It does not matter your pace, distance or time, I encourage/challenge everybody to get out and run and learn more about themselves than they ever knew! No matter your time, crossing the finish line is one of the greatest accomplishments you once may have thought impossible. You can’t finish until you start! “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
